This scene by Maria Ramos is taken from childhood memories, as she recalls the liberated joy of the village???s riverside. Tiny stuffed dolls are tucked into the patchwork composition, offering a sense of animation and depth to the backdrop of greens and bold blues, warmed by a smiling sun. Ramos crafts the wall hanging by hand using strips of cotton and synthetic cloth, each detail imbued with cultural meaning. A simple and proud Peruvian accent for the home d???cor. Puerto Palmeras (literally “Port of the Palm Trees”) is located in northern Peru. 70% cotton, 30% synthetic.

Maria Ramos Sanchez presents her original perspective with this applique wall decoration using an array of evocative colors. This colorful wall hanging is a fascinating study in working with wool. “I used a lot of details in this piece,” Mar???a Uyauri explains. “This shows the process in the Andes. Sheep are sheared, the wool is washed and dyed, then spun into yarn.” In the foreground, a woman weaves on a backstrap loom. Uyauri creates this beautiful wall hanging in intricate arpiller???a ??? embroidered appliqu???s of fabric cutouts hand-stitched to a background of cotton. Crafted in three dimensions, each figure is lavishly embroidered. A display rod can slip through an opening at the top.

After 40 days and 40 nights of non-stop rain, the world looks all shades of blue as Noah’s ark finally docks. Animals come out in two by two, thankful for surviving the deluge. Amid all this beauty, a woman takes her laundry to the river and scrubs clothes clean. Ducks accompany her in a sunny composition by Marcela Paredes Huacles. Crafted in three dimensions, each figure is lavishly embroidered; a crocheted border finishes the piece. 60% cotton, 30% synthetic, 5% wool, 5% thread. Hand wash in cold water with mild detergent.

The sun shines brightly on an Andean fiesta. Known as Yunsa or Tumbamonte, this celebration usually takes place during carnival time. A tree is festooned with balloons, streamers and presents, and partygoers dance around the tree. Each one chops at the trunk with a hatchet until it falls, then everyone seizes the goodies from the branches. Mar???a Uyauri creates the scene in intricate arpiller???a ??? embroidered appliqu???s of fabric cutouts hand-stitched to a background of cotton. Mar???a Ramos S???nchez here captures seagulls, stingrays, a squid, pelicans, fish and a crab - their varied shapes and sizes rendered with a hint of naivet???. Every animal in the tapestry seems to be having as much fun as Ramos had in the completion of this piece. She plays with perspective and removes the line between the surface and underwater, rendering the scene both chaotic and harmonious. Made of cotton (70%) and synthetic fibers (30%), Ramos produces the fantastical composition by sewing together pieces of burlap, recalling scenes from her own vivid memories.
