Working in a quiet palette of golden earth tones, Azorin paints a beautiful portrait of Jesus. “Through this image, I try to show the faith and hope of our redeemer, the sweetness of Christ’s face, his passion and love to save us,” the artist confides. Wearing a broad-brimmed hat and silk brocade, Saint Gabriel the archangel appears in the style of a Spanish grandee. He appeared to Zachariah to announce the birth of John the Baptist and later to Mary, to tell her she would be the mother of Jesus.
