Zosimo Laura draws inspiration from the Inca’s vast artistry and wisdom, selecting the farming calendar to illuminate his latest rug. Geometry and symmetry coincide in colorful perfection, advising when to sow, when to harvest - when to celebrate. Laura makes a rich combination of artificial and natural dyes to color this piece, while hand-woven mastery ignites this rug as a perfect touch of artistic d???cor, perhaps near the bed like this rug’s Quechua name suggests - Chaqui Pu???una, “Foot of the Bed.” The Inca calendar comprises of 12 months, it is based on the movement of the sun and the phases of the moon, and legend attributes its creation to Mayta Capac. It is a solar, huato, calendar but the months, or quilla, are lunar, and each one is distinguished my an economic, social or religious ceremony where festivities and sacrifices were part of the celebrations. Laura upholds the refined artistry of the Ayacucho weave, using a double pedaled loom. He dyes the wool in big cauldrons over an open wood fire and uses natural dyes for the clear hues and artificial ones for the darker hues. This piece is made of 95% wool and 5% cotton. Around 60% of the dyes used are natural, the remaining 40% synthetic. Dry cleaning is recommended.
